Shooting Car Rally

For over 20 years, I’ve helped brands and organisations communicate with clarity and impact, using photography and film to tell stories that engage, move, and drive results. My background in advertising taught me how to shape messages that stick. Today, I bring that same precision and creativity into every frame I shoot.

One of my deepest creative joys? Safari Rally photography.

There’s a raw, unpredictable beauty in off-road motorsport. The dust, the noise, the sheer force of machine versus terrain, it’s electric. I’ve followed and photographed the Safari Rally for a few years now, and every event reminds me why I love what I do.

Quick Tips for Off-Road Rally Photography:
  • Scout early. Look for high-drama spots, tight corners, water crossings, elevation drops.
  • Use the light. Early mornings and late afternoons are your allies. Backlit dust = magic.
  • Tell the whole story. Don’t just shoot the cars, capture the people, the landscape, the tension in the air.
  • Prioritise safety. Rally is unpredictable. Always have an escape plan and respect the track boundaries.
  • Gear up wisely. Fast shutter, long lens, and weather protection are musts. So are extra batteries and cards.

Every time I’m out there in the dust, I’m reminded: this craft is equal parts patience, instinct, and passion.

Whatever your subject, tell stories that move people, then you’re not just capturing moments. You’re creating meaning.
